PARAG SHAHFounding Managing Director & CEO
Parag has over 20 years of experience in finance, operations, and venture capital, and is highly experienced in providing comprehensive capital structure solutions to private and public companies in the life sciences industry.
Parag previously served as the Senior Managing Director and Group Head of the Life Sciences practice at Hercules Capital. Over ~10 years, Parag and his team committed ~$2 billion in capital to venture and growth stage companies in the life sciences industry. Prior to that, Parag was Senior Vice President and Group Head of Imperial Bank’s Life Sciences practice, which was acquired by Comerica Bank. He also served as an Assistant Vice President at BancBoston (acquired by Fleet), where he focused on mergers and acquisitions finance.
Parag currently serves as Chairman of eCare Vault, an early-stage software company that bridges privacy-compliant communications between the education and health sectors. He is also a charter member of TiE, one of the leading entrepreneurial organizations in the country. Parag is a graduate of MIT where he received an M.S. in Technology, Management and Policy and B.S. in Molecular Biology, and continues to be involved with the Whitehead Institute at MIT.
ANUP ARORAFounding Managing Director & CIO
Anup has 20 years of investment, operations, and consulting experience in the healthcare industry. He has spent the last dozen years investing in venture and growth stage life sciences companies.
Most recently, Anup was a Managing Director at Hercules Capital, where he led nearly half a billion dollars in capital commitments to private and small-cap public companies in the healthcare space. Previously, Anup was a Managing Director at Easton Capital, where he was involved in numerous venture capital investments in biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, and healthcare IT companies. During his tenure with Easton, Anup was also actively engaged in the strategic and operational management of several of his portfolio companies, including Bluebird Bio (FKA Genetix Pharmaceuticals) where he served as Chief Business Officer. Prior to Easton, Anup worked in global marketing at Pfizer, and as a strategy consultant with Strategic Decisions Group. He also spent two years engaged in biomedical research at Stanford Medical School.
Anup holds an MBA with High Distinction (Baker Scholar) from Harvard Business School, as well as a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University.
MEGHAN FITZGERALDFounder, Board Chair
Meg serves as Partner at L1 Health, a healthcare-focused private investment firm with over $3 billion of capital under management. She has over 20 years of experience in senior executive roles at healthcare companies such as Cardinal Health, Medco, and Pfizer, and has served on the Boards of several early stage life sciences companies.
Prior to joining L1 Health, Meg was the EVP of Strategy, M&A and Health Policy at Cardinal Health and a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to this role she was the President of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, a specialty healthcare business that offers services for healthcare providers, payers, and the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Meg was Senior Vice President of New Markets International Division and Business Development at Medco Health Solutions, where she was responsible for leading business development efforts in the United States and internationally. She previously held positions of increasing responsibility at Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, where she supported business strategies and operations, as well as marketing positions at Merck and Sanofi-Synthelabo.
Meg is a member of the Boards of Directors for SeniorLink and Tenet Healthcare, and previously sat on the Boards of Concert Pharmaceuticals, GELESIS, and Arix Bioscience. She serves on the faculty at Columbia University, where she teaches “The Business of Healthcare” and Strategy. Meg holds a DrPH from New York Medical College, an MPH from Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Fairfield University.
Austin has over 10 years of healthcare investment and operations experience. He is passionate about partnering with healthcare companies developing innovative approaches to improve the lives of patients.
Prior to joining K2HV, Austin was the Vice President of Finance and Expansion for Oak Street Health, a rapidly growing healthcare services company that operates primary care centers for adults in medically-underserved communities. He led the company’s overall corporate development efforts, including new market launches, strategic partnerships, value-based contracting, and corporate finance. Prior to Oak Street Health, Austin was on the life sciences investment teams for Hercules Capital and Silicon Valley Bank. He was a core member of the deal teams that committed more than half a billion dollars in capital to venture and growth stage companies in both the healthcare and life sciences industries.
Austin graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University with a B.S. in Business Administration. He also spent two years with the U.S. Peace Corps in Armenia where he led many projects focused on community development and youth leadership.
DEREK ABELSenior Associate
Derek's passion lies at the intersection of healthcare innovation and investing. His healthcare investment experience includes structured credit, venture capital, growth equity, and life sciences royalty monetization.
Prior to joining K2HV, Derek was a Senior Associate at Longitude Capital, a venture and growth capital investment firm specializing in biotechnology and medical technology. He was a member of the biotechnology venture capital team and helped lead the firm's royalty monetization and structured investment strategy. Prior to Longitude, Derek was on the investment team at HealthCare Royalty Partners, where he evaluated and executed structured credit and royalty monetization transactions.
Derek holds a B.S.B.A in Finance and Healthcare Management from Washington University in St. Louis.
